43rd Annual Patos Island Race

March 21 & 22, 2026

Sidney North Saanich Yacht Club

The 43rd annual Patos Island Race sets sail March 21 & 22, 2026, hosted by the Sidney North Saanich Yacht Club. This iconic overnight race is a cornerstone of Pacific Northwest sailing - drawing competitive crews from across Vancouver Island, the mainland, and beyond for a weekend of endurance, strategy, and coastal camaraderie.

Set against the stunning backdrop of the Southern Gulf Islands and San Juan Islands, the Patos Island Race challenges sailors with shifting tides, tactical navigation, and unpredictable spring conditions. It’s more than a race - it’s a celebration of seamanship, community, and tradition.

As the first major race of the 2026 Vancouver Island Racing Series, Patos has become one of the most anticipated events for competitive crews from yacht clubs across the region. The combination of long and short distance overnight racing, lasting up to 24 hours, paired with SNSYC’s clubhouse hospitality and camaraderie, is hard to resist. The large number of returning boats each year - many flying Patos race banners from their rigging - is a testament to its enduring appeal.

Whether you’re a returning racer, a first-time participant, a sponsor, or a spectator, we invite you to be part of this unforgettable event. Contact us at info@patosislandrace.com.

Racers

In 2026, the Patos Island Race will feature three distinct sailing courses designed to challenge skill and strategy: the Long Course (~67 NM), Short Course (~43 NM), and Day Race (~30 NM). AIS transponders are required for boats competing in the Long and Short Courses, and there are no PHRF rating cut-offs - any boat with a valid rating is welcome to participate. Stay tuned for the Notice of Race and registration details.
